Suggested Books (Michael Joiner)
I think every Christian first and foremost needs to IMMERSE themselves DAILY in God's Word before reading any other books. At least 90 percent of my time has been spent reading scripture. In addition to daily scripture readings, each true seeker may desire to go even deeper by reading some commentaries, history, and maybe even systematic theology books (books that investigate THE BOOK deeper).

I personally do not really like "lighter" "Christian Living" books that leave me with a feeling of shallowness and "Why did I just spend $20.00 for a host of shallow sermonettes?". But, whatever leads people closer to Jesus is what is important!

With that said, I've included a list of a few of the books that have really touched me deeply and somehow moved me into a deeper understanding of God and deeper relationship with Him. I have not divided the books up into serious, light, and fiction as Bobby has because I have not read nearly as much as the old man! haha

  The Normal Christian Life
Watchman Nee
Small but BIG book! Transformed my life. I would consider this a must read.

Case for Christ, Case for Faith, Case for Creator, Case for the Real Jesus
Lee Strobel
This series of books is incredible! Strobel takes deeper scholarly topics and issues, metabolizes the information from various sources, and presents it in such a way that a non-scholarly type person (like myself) can understand and USE.

No Wonder They Call Him the Savior
Max Lucado
This book transformed my Christian walk! This is a must read for those whose relationship with Jesus is very "black and white" or "academic". Lucado has a very colorful way of introducing you to our Saviour Jesus!

Mere Christianity
C.S. Lewis
I agree with Bobby that this is just one of those books every Christian must read! It helps answer all the questions every TRUE seeker of Truth will eventually run into or have themselves.

The Divine Romance, The Inward Journey
Gene Edwards
Although I may not agree with Gene on everything he believes, these two books transformed my life in different ways: Divine Romance - increased my understanding of how God sees us and how much Jesus loves me (Bridal Imagery); The Inward Journey - answers questions on why God allows His children to suffer. AWESOME stuff!

  Searching for God Knows What
Donald Miller
Many might not like Donald because of claims he is "Emerging" (if you don't know what that means, read John McArthur's The Truth War), but this book was a breath of fresh air for me. His writing style is so unlike the "religious sounding" style of many Christian authors. Donald simply writes like a normal person. If you like reading Bobby's emeals, you will love this book!

So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore?
Jake Colsen
Unbelievable book! I could not put this book down. This is not a book that bashes churches, as the name might imply, but a book about the Father's love and that we may all need to rethink our view of what church should be. The book can be downloaded for free and you can read more about this book here at this link.
